Organized Play Update: Redemption Begins!
Evil Genius Games, like other companies in our industry, is in the process of adapting to changing market conditions, rising costs, uncertain tariff levels, and disruptions to the distribution ecosystem. In fact, just earlier this week, our friends at Paizo published a candid update about the challenges and difficult decisions that the company is facing to ensure its long-term future. We appreciate Paizo’s transparency and commitment to our industry because many of these challenges are industry-wide for publishers.
One of the areas in which we are adapting our long-term strategy concerns our Evil Genius Organized-Play (E.G.O.) program. And here, again, we are not alone. The reality is that organized-play programs are expensive to create, manage, and support. And they require a tremendous amount of coordinated effort from publishers, retailers, Game Masters, and volunteers alike. So, as all of these stakeholders continue to evolve, our program must evolve along with them. And with that in mind, we are making several changes to our own organized-play initiative.
A More Sustainable Path Forward
When we originally announced Season 2 of our organized play program, we planned to release 18 episodes. After reviewing participation data, distribution models, and long-term sustainability, we have decided to streamline the season to 12 episodes, released monthly. This change allows us to focus our resources on creating higher-quality adventures and stronger support materials, and it also gives players and Game Masters additional time to enjoy each adventure before the next chapter arrives. And as importantly, it aligns with having a more sustainable program in the coming years.
Welcome to Redemption!
As part of this evolution, the E.G.O. Program adventures will now officially be known as Redemption, the unique setting that Evil Genius originally developed for organized play. As a setting, Redemption is more than a cool title—it reflects the themes and tensions of the campaign itself. The adventures explore second chances, difficult choices, unlikely heroes, and the opportunity to change the future through courageous action—with Redemption’s keen and quirky humor always close at hand.
The season title, Signal and Noise, similarly reflects the themes and tensions of the twelve episodic adventures of Season 2. Redemption, recovering from the devastation and betrayal of Season 1, is upended when an unexpected revelation forces the heroes to sift through rubble and evidence to uncover the core truth of two inter-dimensional beings and a signal coming from an unknown source. Signals from the past, present, and future all clash, leaving Redemption to find its own wavelength amidst the noise…if the world and reality survive.
To support the season, Evil Genius Games will also release the Redemption Cinematic Sourcebook, a major setting resource designed for the Redemption IP and for use both inside and outside of organized play. Whether you participate in official events or run games at your own table, the sourcebook will provide new options, lore, characters, and adventures that expand the Redemption setting into the Everyday Heroes universe.
Play Where You Want
Many of the most common pieces of feedback we receive come down to one simple ask: players want flexibility.
And we agree that they should have it!
Organized play should not be limited to a specific location. Whether you play at your local game store, at a convention, at home with friends, online through a virtual tabletop, or anywhere else, we want you to be part of the community.
The goal has always been to bring people together through great stories—not to dictate where and how those stories get told and experienced.
A New Distribution Model
Going forward, organized play adventures will primarily be distributed through Sidekick, giving players and Game Masters immediate access to adventures, character management tools, and campaign resources in a single location.
Over time, we also plan to make these adventures available through DriveThruRPG and through participating retailers via Bits and Mortar, helping ensure players can access content through the channels they prefer.
Dispatch Continues…
We believe that recognizing and rewarding community participation is critical to building a healthy, organized play environment, and we remain committed to investing in those tools. So, while our distribution model is evolving, the Dispatch app will remain a central part of our organized-play ecosystem. Players and Game Masters will continue to track their games, record participation, monitor campaign progress, and earn rewards and perks through Dispatch.
Look for more updates and plans for improvements and integrations in the months ahead!
Thank You!
At its foundation, our organized-play program has never been about adventure PDFs, reporting systems, or release schedules: it has always been about the people—GMs and players—around the table. So, we want to thank the hundreds of Game Masters, retailers, organizers, and community members who have already signed up to support our organized-play program. Your enthusiasm, feedback, and commitment have helped shape Redemption into something bigger, broader, and more bad-ass than what we originally envisioned: its own IP!
As we begin this next chapter, we are excited about where Redemption is headed, and we look forward to telling more grand stories and experiencing more bold adventures with all of you.
See you at the table!
